Symposium on Dispute Resolution in Islamic Finance (Dispute Resolution in Islamic Finance: Litigation or Arbitration?)
There has been an on-going debate as to whether the proper mode of mechanism to settle Islamic Finance disputes should be way of litigation or arbitration. Studies shows that Islamic financial institutions tend to favour litigation over arbitration for various reasons. However, in recent years, there has been a need and demand towards the use of arbitration in Islamic Finance. It is claimed that arbitration, which has a strong basis in Islamic jurisprudence, has advantage over litigation as it promotes settlement of disputes speedily and discreetly.
In light of current developments and the need for understanding further on the preferred mode of dispute settlement in Islamic Finance, a one-day Symposium themed "Dispute Resolution in Islamic Finance: Litigation or Arbitration" will be held on Tuesday, 5th September 2017 at the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA).
This event is jointly organised by the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), together with the Monash School of Business, in collaboration with The Malaysian Current Law Journal (CLJ) and supported by the KLRCA.

- Muamalat Division of the High Court of Malaya and its Role in Dispute Resolution
