Datuk Professor. Sundra Rajoo to Become Next Chairman of ADNDRC [Press Release]
Asian Domain Name Dispute Resolution Centre (ADNDRC) is pleased to announce that Datuk Prof Sundra Rajoo has been appointed as the next ADNDRC Chairman. Datuk Prof Rajoo will take office starting from 1 January 2018. He succeeds Mr Edward Rubin who has served as ADNDRC Chairman since 2012.
Datuk Prof Rajoo is the Director of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration. He served as President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators for the year 2016. He is also the Past President of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Grouping (APRAG), which is a federation of nearly 40 arbitral institutions in the Asia Pacific region. Mr Rubin said of Datuk Prof Rajoo’s ADNDRC appointment “Sundra is widely known as a highly distinguished, respected and dynamic leader in the dispute resolution field, not only in Asia, but in the wider international dispute resolution community. We are extremely fortunate that he has consented to lead our organization.” Mr Rubin continued, “I know that Sundra has many ideas, initiatives and plans for the ADNDRC and its forward momentum. I am confident that he will write the next chapter in ADNDRC’s success story.”
Datuk Prof Rajoo is a Chartered Arbitrator and an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya (non-practising). He is listed on the arbitrator panels of numerous leading organisations such as ICC, CIETAC, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (England), World Intellectual Property Organisation, Accredited International Arbitrators of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, and Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. He is a visiting professor at the Faculty of Built Environment, University of Technology Malaysia. He is an adjunct professor with the Faculty of Law, University of Malaysia. He has authored and co-authored a number of authoritative books on construction law and arbitration. In July 2015, Datuk Prof Sundra Rajoo was conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Laws from the Leeds Beckett University in England.
Datuk Prof Rajoo has had over 200 appointments as arbitrator either as chairman, co-arbitrator of three-member panel and sole arbitrator in international and domestic arbitrations. He has also been appointed as an Arbitrator of the Olympic Council of Malaysia aimed at settling sports disputes amongst national sports associations. Datuk Prof Sundra said of his recent appointment, “I am very honored to accept the Chairmanship of this extremely successful collaboration and look forward to working together with all the institutions to develop more innovative ideas and increase collaborative efforts to make the alliance stronger in the coming years.” Datuk Prof Sundra continued “I must take a moment to congratulate and thank Ed for this excellent and tireless service to the alliance and I am certain that we will only build on the strong foundation laid out by the secretariat under his excellent leadership.”
This announcement comes at a time where ADNDRC adds a new Council Member, Mr Dennis Cai, President of Policy and Compliance, DotTrademark Holding Ltd. Mr Cai has 12 years’ experience in policy making, IP dispute resolution, digital brand protection and overseeing of domain name dispute resolution proceedings.
ADNDRC, established in 2002, is one of only five organizations in the world providing domain name dispute resolution services under the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP). ADNDRC is jointly operated by the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), the Internet Address Dispute Resolution Committee (KIDRC) and the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) (soon to be renamed the ‘Asian International Arbitration Centre’).
As a dispute resolution service provider accredited by ICANN, ADNDRC administers domain name dispute resolution proceedings through its four offices not only under the UDRP, but also under the following ICANN policies:-
- Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS)
- Trademark Post Delegation Dispute Resolution Procedure (TM-PDDRP)
- Registrar Transfer Dispute Resolution Policy (TDRP)
- Sunrise Dispute Resolution Policy (SDRP)
- Charter Eligibility Dispute Resolution Policy (CEDRP)
ADNDRC is also a Dispute-Resolution Service Provider approved by the Organization for the Promotion, Protection and Progress of Frogans Technology (OP3FT) to resolve disputes concerning Frogans addresses.
